I’m Monica Flores Richart, and I have the honor of serving as your Houston City College Trustee for District I.

As the daughter of an educator and two first generation college graduates, I know firsthand the power of education to change lives. That’s why I’ve devoted my career to expanding access, equity, and opportunity for every student no matter their race, background, or zip code.

I studied public policy at Princeton and earned my law degree from Columbia, then came to Houston to serve our community as an attorney, as a public servant, and as an advocate for fair and accessible elections. My work with the Harris County Clerk’s Office helped bring countywide voting, longer early voting hours, and greater accessibility to underserved communities.

But my true passion is education. As a mom of three HCC-area students, I fight every day to ensure Houston City College delivers on its promise: affordable, high-quality education that prepares our students for the future and strengthens our local economy.

Since being elected to the HCC Board, I’ve been honored to serve in key leadership roles: Chair of the Board Governance Committee for two years, Chair of the Audit Committee, and Vice Chair of the Board for two years. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to transparency, accountability, and ensuring that HCC remains focused on student success.

I believe HCC should be a bridge to opportunity for all, whether you’re pursuing a degree, learning a trade, or taking the next step in your career. That’s the vision I’m committed to, and that’s the work I want to continue with your support.
